The revolutionary FastArm throwing aid -- designed by former Major League pitcher Bob Kaiser -- uses leverage, momentum and centrifugal force to sharpen your throwing mechanics. - Joe Kaiser
1. By: cptobvious on 05-02-2011 02:54:41 aaaaaaaand Neftali Feliz is currently on the DL with a shoulder injury. GASP!
2. By: Chris Crawford on 05-02-2011 03:58:29 Really is a good product, and I don't get crap for saying that.
3. By: spignotti on 05-02-2011 11:07:49 Just bought one for my little guy - looking forward to using it with him & his teammates. 10% savings if you use SAVE10 at checkout.
4. By: Jason A. Churchill on 05-02-2011 12:21:34 Let's be fair. Feliz is on the DL with shoulder inflammation. Inflammation that the club believes was caused by the right-hander falling asleep on the plane with his right arm above his head. And he hit 99 in a BP session...
5. By: desertrider on 05-02-2011 14:16:20 BOOOOOOO! I've followed your insightful commennts for years Jason, but I have to tell you just how disappointed I am to see you SELL OUT and post an advertisement on your site. I am literally feeling nauseous !!
6. By: Jason A. Churchill on 05-02-2011 16:29:14 Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. Lookoutlanding, et al, are that way ---------------> I'm more disappointed that you'd call this a sellout. I've been running ads on the site for 4+ years and am pushing this product because a friend is involved and because I believe in such products myself for young arms. But, alas, have a good time on other blogs that don't sell out. Oh, wait, they are either on networks (inherent sellout for traffic) or have their own ads.
7. By: rjfrik on 05-02-2011 17:30:01 What the hell desertrider, do you think blogs grow on trees, or money or man hours or content? Be an adult. Someone is trying to run a business here. It's not like there are Mcdonald or Tampax ads on the site. It's a damn baseball tool to help young players build arm strength.
8. By: desertrider on 05-02-2011 18:37:50 Very well Chris, you just lost a reader. I'm happy reading Cameron and Baker for MLB insights, and Yenich/Stone are doing a great job reporting on our prospects. Good luck with your info-mercials.....I'm sure they will be a big hit !! Bye.
9. By: Chris Crawford on 05-02-2011 18:45:45 1. Not sure why you said that Chris lost a reader 2. It was nice meeting you, too.
10. By: cbk525 on 05-02-2011 20:48:05 I have to say that the post is disappointing. Of course I support the notion that a site has a right to be be commercial in order to fund its operations and even to return a profit to the operator. But there is a big difference between allowing space on the site for advertisements and writing an editorial piece extolling the virtues of a specific product. I doubt anyone has a problem with ads appearing in the New York Times, but can you imagine what would happen if the most respected newspaper in the country ran an piece in the op/ed pages saying that "XXX brand of cars are better than other cars and by the way, you can call this number to find a dealer nearest you". While this site shouldn't be held to the same degree of journalistic integrity as the New York Times, I think it's fair to say that there is at least the appearance of the line being crossed into blatant commercialism. Perhaps JAC really believes in this product and perhaps he didn't get paid to post the above content, but still... it didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. The unfortunate thing is that as a result of this, JAC has lost a bit of credibility when it comes to the objectivity of his normal writing (or at least he has with this particular reader). As a result, I am less likely to take the content that is posted here seriously. At the end of the day, this site is operated by its owners and they have the right to do whatever they want. But I also have the right to not visit this site, and I think I will exercise that right. Ciao.
11. By: 01v-dubs on 05-02-2011 21:33:19 I don't post here that often, but as Jason knows I have been a long time follower. This is the first time that Jason has done a post like this and I have no problem with it. Jason works very hard on this site, and deserves every penny he gets via subscriptions and advertisements. I respect people's opinion are believe they are entitled to it. However, this is a blog not a newspaper. LL has a weekly post sponsored by Gillette. Also, you say that newspapers don't endorse things in their articles? Ever read a movie, car, or any type of review? Most of the time they tell you where you can get whatever product they're reviewing. During election time they endorse candidates who also likely advertised with them (I realize the ones they don't endorse also likely advertise with them, and they are not supposed to let it affect their decision). I know you are likely to point to the fact that Jason likely got paid to post this, but at the same time it's his site, and I've followed him long enough to know that he wouldn't endorse something that he didn't believe in. It clearly says that Jason believes in this product because his son is in little league, and as a baseball enthusiast he understands the importance of a proper delivery, especially for kids. I'm past the point of playing competitive baseball, and I don't have a kid so this post really has no interest to me. However, if I did have a kid interested in baseball I would not have found out about this product but for Jason, so there's that. I really can't comprehend how this could affect the sites credibility. This is clearly an ad, so if you are not interested don't read it and wait for the next non-endorsed post. Jason and Chris are not paid to alter their opinions on prospects et al. This site get's its readers because of the quality of its writing. Jason is good at what he does, as evidence from that fact that he went from starting his own blog, to also being featured in newspapers and ESPN on a regular basis. Jason and Chris sorry about how long this post got, I know that's a rule, and you guys can take care of yourself, I just felt the need to chime in. Keep up the good work, I appreciate your insights.
12. By: Jason A. Churchill on 05-02-2011 21:43:16 I just don't give a flying heap if readers -- yes, plural -- want to bolt because I pushed a product that I believe can be of assistance to one of the biggest problems in amateur sports. Be gone. I do NOT want those readers here, nor do I need them. And no, I didn't get paid to post this. But like I said in the post, PI will make a small commission on any sales.
13. By: StandinPat on 05-02-2011 22:00:23 If you really look to "Baker for MLB insights" then you've got a much larger set of problems than some Prospect Insider product endorsement. And really, so what people? It's a short piece on a new training device that Jason believes in and feels could help reduce injury. Would you be all pissy and whiny if this article was on the effects of the Mariners new minor league workout program and where you could purchase said program? How is this any different? And how does this article negatively affect your lives? If you disagree with it or it doesn't apply to you... don't read it.
14. By: Jason A. Churchill on 05-02-2011 22:09:13 Ha... that's a great post, Pat. I like Baker, so I don't want to clown him at all. I think he does a great job getting tons of information out there. He's much better than the vast majority of the beat guys out there. But I love the sentiment.
15. By: dawgncarolina on 05-03-2011 00:03:17 Delete this article and get back to work providing me inside information and well-researched and reasoned analysis for next to nothing. I am personally offended that you think you can use this site that you created to share info about potentially helpful products, as if somehow you have the right to choose what you post on your own blog. Away with this nonsense!
16. By: mymrbig on 05-03-2011 00:14:24 Little known fact - Wayne Graham was a co-inventor of fastarm and Rice pitchers have been using it for years. #endsnark
17. By: mymrbig on 05-03-2011 00:15:49 Oh, and if Jason believes in the product I think any complaints about this post are ridiculous. Selling out would be if he didn't believe in this product at all, but pushed it anyway for money.
18. By: shemberry on 05-03-2011 00:41:59 Jason, When exactly did you stop owning this site? Oh wait, it's your site to do with as you please, my bad. I am glad you put this on the site. I am a high school softball coach, and I plan to order several for my team. The biggest issue I face with young players is lack of proper throwing mechanics. It keeps them from throwing hard, it keeps them from throwing accurately, and most important it leads to injury. Not that you need my permission, but go ahead and put up whatever you feel like. I can't believe that someone honestly thought they had the right to tell you what you were allowed to post on your site.
19. By: brockfs1 on 05-03-2011 00:58:26 This is great Jason. I will be purchasing one for myself.
20. By: dawgncarolina on 05-03-2011 01:08:01 If anyone thinks I was serious in #15 I feel sorry for them. Out of curiosity Jason, is Bob Kaiser any relation to our boy Joe?
21. By: Adam P. Boyd on 05-03-2011 02:25:06 I wish I had this when I was pitching. Wonder if any M's players use this. Also curious about that MiLB training program - all the beat guys promised coverage on it and that seemed to fall by the wayside.
22. By: rocketdawg31 on 05-03-2011 03:45:08 If I can weigh in with my .02.... I've followed this site for a few years now, and have never known Jason to be a guy who'd shill strictly for dough, even if the shill in question was out-and-out horsepuckey. The fact he put it on here tells me that he's a believer in it- and experience has taught me that if he believes in something, he's got damn good reason to. I've got way too much trust in Jason's judgment to have the audacity to label a move like this a "sellout". Me, I'm going to look into this thing. I have an 11-year-old nephew in Alaska who throws so hard he scares me. I know his coach wants him to pitch, and if he does he may ask ME for pointers.
23. By: acqb1424 on 05-03-2011 08:24:57 Like some of the others Jason knows that I read the site daily but don't post very often, I am also a high school baseball pitching coach and seeing this was a great way for me to learn about a product that I otherwise hadn't seen yet. For those of you that are upset with the post I have to ask you if you truly understand the significance of injuries to young arms? I see so many kids who get run into the ground by their coaches that by the time they reach me (ages 15-18) they have no arm left and their mechanics are shot. I had a player once tell me that his youth coach had him pitch three consecutive days (kid was 14, but still thought that was too much even if just for a few innings) so I asked him how many innings he pitched and he said, "21" and I almost died. Needless to say this young man was done pitching at the ripe old age of 16 and ended up giving up high school baseball because of arm problems. I wish I had a tool like this when I played and I appreciate Jason passing on this information as this is a huge problem in all levels of baseball, and if we visit this site that I'm assuming we care about the game and would like to see players play at their best and this tool might just help them do that.
24. By: rjfrik on 05-03-2011 11:34:25 The posters who claim Jason is a sellout obviously aren't loyal followers of this site or Jason's ESPN Insider page. They most likely are casual visitors who are not members. To them I say good riddens that you will not be visiting again. And if you come back I would like to borrow a line from one my favorite artists, Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, "off off off with their heads". Now back to some baseball. Anyone else notice the Terminator is waking up from his slumber? Kid is going to have a big year, glad he is on my fantasy team. Also was at the Dodger game last night and wow, Either is locked in right now, he got number 28. Hope he can make a serious run at Joe's record, it would make my summer down here in la la land a lot funner. Another note about he Dodgers, Either and Kemp are just outstanding, really really fun to watch.
25. By: Adam T on 05-03-2011 12:36:23 Looks like a good tool. I might get it for my son. That is, if I can ever get over my indignation that Jason would dare smear his own site with something as offensive as a post regarding a tool that might prevent injuries to young baseball players... I need something to throw against a wall. I just hope my mom doesn't care if I break something down here in her basement!
26. By: Missthosepilots on 05-03-2011 12:41:05 I coach High School baseball working mostly with pitchers. It is so common to see kids today who either don't know how to throw, let alone pitch, and suffer from sore arms that can ultimately lead to the ever-growing TJ (or just plain ineffectiveness). Too often coaching can be the cause of those as well. I appreciate your insights through the year and, if there are good products that help kids (in a world where fewer today are actually playing baseball), please go for it!
27. By: wbathurs on 05-03-2011 14:03:19 Wow, wish this was around when I was young. Great stuff!
28. By: griggs on 05-03-2011 14:46:15 As someone who pitched as a kid, I wish there were more products that were available for me. I didn't have a proper pitching coach until I was 15 yrs old, meaning for the last 5 yrs I had been pitching with faulty mechanics. I think that little league, babe ruth, exct. should do a better job in running clinics on proper pitching techniques. Might save some arm problems in the future.
29. By: Missthosepilots on 05-03-2011 18:37:33 To acqb1424, well said! I had missed your comments earlier. To Jason, keep it up. I just watched the video. I am supposed to teach pitching but my right shoulder kills me. I am going to get one for myself and also have my sons (both pitchers) try it as well. So thanks Jason and I am glad you are smart enough to make a commission!
30. By: rhettfieldsted on 05-03-2011 19:13:08 haha what idiots that are upset about this post. I'm about to enter physical therapy school and next summer will be doing an internship on pitching biomechanics and find this to be pretty interesting. It's really a simple thing and I'm glad you're helping to raise awareness of what's out there to help. I'm sure these guys wouldn't be so butt-hurt about it if you typed out a page explaining the thing but posting a video makes it a lot more simple. Just wish there were a product that Felix uses instead of a Ranger. Keep it up Jason.
31. By: Gustafson on 05-03-2011 19:46:21 Hilarious. When did monetizing something you own become offensive??? I hate where this country is going. Kudos Jason for keeping subscription prices low. That is way more important than some fools being offended by capitalism.
32. By: VikingArthur on 05-04-2011 00:09:42 Jason was UPFRONT about the fact that the site would receive a small commission for the product. That does not inherently make it a bad thing. I would like to see a discussion not on the merits of monetizing a blog but rather a discussion on how good our M's look lately. Smoak is raking, Felix and Pineda are simply awesome, Fister looks to be an improved pitcher and Bedard (while not in 2006 form) looks to be serviceable. Kennedy was a great pickup, Cust is coming around, etc. Things are looking good!
33. By: dawgncarolina on 05-04-2011 01:44:13 Jason, thoughts on the Taijuan Walker callup? Any word on why Paxton got scratched?
34. By: Ayala Faction on 05-04-2011 11:20:09 http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/news/story?id=6478110 Were the M's in on this guy? Would be nice to have a solid CF prospect right now.
