Prospect Insider - Major League Baseball Predictions 2009
Major League Baseball Predictions 2009

By Jason A. ChurchillBy 04-05-2009

I thought it would be fun to get everyone's picks in one thread, all six divisions, awards, batting titles, home run leaders, etc, etc...

So copy and paste the bolded text below and place your picks beside them, do not predict win-loss records for anyone but the division champion, and put an X next to your wildcard pick in each league.

I know this is supposed to be a predictions thread, but Baker posted tonight that Aumont is going to be converting full time into a reliever. He even has GM Z quoted in it. I know you mentioned this earlier Jason but then it sounded more like it was just a move to limit his innings. Is this really a full time move or are we now looking at our last three first round picks being relief pitchers for good?

F*%&*ck!!! Why is Aumont now a reliever? Who is going to be a starting pitcher in later on? I really hope Pineda and other High A boys develop quickly or otherwise we may have a dynamite bullpen that will never pitch because we'll be losing all the time.

Don't know where else to put this Jason so feel free to move or delete, but please tell me there is no truth to Aumont being moved to a RP permanently as a 20 year old because he is 6'7" and can get to the show "really quick". I seriously don't know why we bother with this team. fuck.

10.  By: SvhoopsStar5 on 04-05-2009 22:14:44
This Aumont situation makes me want to throw up. I pray this is only a move to get him to the majors quick to face major league pitching and then put him back in the rotation. Seems rather short-sighted though

11.  By: Adam T on 04-05-2009 22:26:59
Svhoops - That seems like the backwards way of doing things, but apparently the Mariners like to do things backwards, regardless of management...

What a strange decision...

I feel like I am going to puke, if this aumont thing is real I have no hope whatsoever for this organization. I read Baker's blog and the reasonning that Jack Z used for this move made absolutely no sense whatsoever. Is it possible this move is from pressure from Howard Lincon? First Morrow now Aumont? What is wrong with this organization?

There will be more power than people expect. Five players in the lineup will have 20 HRs or more.

The team will be more fundamentally sound than in 2008, and team defense will be good. This will help Silva and Washburn do better. It will also show up in moving runners over more than last year, better efficiency at scratching out runs, and getting on base more with a more patient team approach at the plate.

Felix will have his "breakout" year. Griffey will be a presence in the lineup with his hitting. Sweeney will hit 15-20 HRs and be a positive clubhouse presence. Betancourt will be about the same as last year but he will get on base more often. Lopez will improve at the plate, so will Johjima.

The rotation will be average overall. So will the bullpen.

The manager and his coaching staff apparently know how to run a clubhouse well, and although one game is not a large data sample, he apparently knows how to manage a ballgame.

The Mariners will be one of baseball's surprises this year, in that the team will be lots more competitive than people think it will. With some good breaks, .500 is not out of the realm of possibility.
