More Spring Video

By Jason A. ChurchillBy 03-24-2011

We've got more video and tonight's set includes a short glimpse at Guillermo Pimentel and Hassiel Jimenez and several pitches from right-hander Tyler Burgoon.

Below (Click 'Full Story') is a spliced video of a few Texas Rangers prospects from this past weekend, including first-round picks Kellin Deglan and Jake Skole and top shortstop prospect Jurickson Profar, as well as Mariners' outfield prospect Dennis Raben.

Subscribers can view the vids of Pimentel, Jimenez and Burgoon by clicking here.

If you are not yet a subscriber, here are your options.

Raben is back and looking as if he may last a full season this time. He hit well in his abbreviated time last year and has a shot to break camp in Double-A Jackson this season, but could start back in High Desert, too.

The Rangers, in order they appear: Catcher Kellin Deglan, right-hander Eric Hurley, outfielder Jake Skole and Jurickson Profar, who may be the top teen shortstop in pro ball.

Any shot Burgoon could be a starter with two above avg pitches? Or does that frame just scream, "Not gonna hold up?"

Not just the frame, but the effort in the delivery. But he has a good shot to be a 7th or 8th inning reliever, and he could move quickly, too.

I was looking more at the release points and the ball coming out. But yeah, Im seeing the high effort after watching again, too bad. That's pretty typical for a smaller size pitcher right?

As many have referenced Lincecum in past posts...kinda the same here. Burgoon is probably the same if not a touch bigger frame wise...and effort, I don't know if anyone puts more effort into it than "the freak". Guess what I'm getting at is... you never know. But if I was betting...I totally agree with JC as a set up guy, not a starter. However, I don't see a lot of effort in the delivery?

Gotta laugh though when Lincecum is used as a comparison ... somehow, it just doesn't work. Ha

Lincecum is an outlier as far as I'm concerned. I'm not seeing high violent effort. But when you think of his throwing motion and body parts as mechanical levers, it's a quick snappy motion of sorts, not a long smooth throw.

Don't mistake moving parts and quick violence as effort. Slower does not equal effortless.

Burgoon has a high-effort delivery without violence.

I see your point. I,ve always looked at effort as a quick jerk of sorts. Something that takes the body out of position because of the motion. It would seem a motion that is smoother and less action takes less effort to reproduce. Lot's of ways to interpret I guess. I do you yours. Thanks

see yours that is

It's almost always the case with sleight pitchers. It takes more of their energy to get the arm moving that fast.

I really like Pimentel's simple load to ready hands. Seems like he really drives the bat through with some authority.

Yep, lots to like there.

What size is Jimenez...that kid looks put together. Almost too big to be a catcher. What kind of offense does he have. Looks good for liitle bit we see.

Jimenez has a solid, advanced approach, works the count, makes contact, but the swing is flat and he has problems with the breaking ball -- of course.

He's not that big -- 6 feet ... ish ... 205-210 pounds.

Jason, how much is Jack really on the hot seat? It seems to me that he didn't put this team together to optimize the succes of this season. It appears to me that he's setting things up for a season or a couple seasons from now. That, I would think, would be something that he'd need to have the ownerships understanding of. If I read what he's doing correctly, it's the smartest way to run a team in Seattle.

He's on the hot seat -- not to win, per se, but for it to be CLEAR AS DAY that he's doing this right.

It's not so clear right now, but some promising years by Smoak, Moore and Saunders would go a long way to show it.

Jason or Chris,

Were you surprised at all with Flores' announced departure today? What are your thoughts?

Rereading my above post, it has become apparent that my sarcasm is almost non-existent. Sorry if there was a question there...
