Download this week's podcast right here.

Chris and I talked about the middle infield options, including why it makes sense for the Mariners to sign Orlando Hudson, what it might take to land Jason Bartlett from the Tampa Bay Rays (is David Aardsma enough?) or even Jose Reyes from the Mets.

We also make our Apple Cup predictions.

Would Aardsma+Chavez or Halman be good for Bartlett?

They can have a players that may be able to contribute at the big league level and a proven reliever?

Is service time really that big of a deal for Ackley considering he has a much better bat then half the team?

Sounds like the Cards want to move Brendan Ryan. He'd be a pretty nice fit...

I hear the Nationals are shopping Ian Desmond for young pitching.

Jason/Chris,

I would hate to go this route but does Saunders vs RHP and Matt Diaz vs LHP make sense?

CyFelix,

Probably too much for Bartlett, considering he's going to make about as much as Wilson.

And yes, for me, the service time matter to an extent. If the M's were contenders, it wouldn't matter to me at all.

cuse,

Yes, he would. But you can get Punto, a similar player, for about the same salary, give or take, without giving up trade cost, too.

shortstop9,

The Nationals want a mid-rotation starter for Desmond, who is OK at short, but not great, and isn't a long term answer in Seattle.

Missthosepilpots,

Of course! Call in and talk to us next time!

aerichner,

It does in a sense, but does that mean Bradley is the full-time DH? He won't be happy with that. Of course, the club could release him, sign Branyan for a Pat Burrell type deal and use him at DH instead. Problem solved.

In the end, I'm not ready to pigeonhole Saunders into a platoon role, however.

Jack Cust was just non-tendered (again). Does he automatically move to the top of the list for our DH vacancy?

2010 wOBA:

Dunn .379
Cust .371
Vlad .360
Matsui .356
Branyan .350
Berkman .345

And he's younger than those guys.

On Punto v. Ryan, I guess that reason that Ryan intrigued me a bit more was that there might be some projection left in his bat. I can see why they might be considered fungible though.

I have to think Cust would be a possibility.

You're right, cuse, there certainly is.

jgstecker,

if he wasn't such a douche bag of a human being, it'd be easier to say yes.

Jason, could you elaborate on Cust a bit? I have heard that he is an a-hole from multiple places but never a specific example of why. was there some public instance that I'm not remembering or is he just generally seen as a dick?

I haven't experienced or seen it myself, but the reputation he's built is as a guy who treats people poorly.

He's also been strongly suspected of PEDs in the past, if that matters to you.
