Prospect Insider - Prospect Insider Handbook 2011
Prospect Insider Handbook 2011

By Jason A. ChurchillBy 02-22-2011

Forever subscribers have been receiving their 2011 Prospect Insider Digital Handbooks since Friday evening, but here's a chance for anyone else to get theirs.

And once you get your digital copy, remember there are bookmarks that will take you to any part of the guide you'd like to check out. There's no need to scroll by hand through parts you've already read or want to skip over.

To use the bookmarks, open the PDF and look for the blue ribbon on the far left side of your Reader. Clicking that opens the bookmarks as a set of clickable table of contents.

If you are a monthly or annual subscriber, click here to get your handbook for $3.49.

If you are not a subscriber, never fear, it costs you little more. For non-subscribers, click here to get your handbook for $4.99.

If you'd like to become a forever subscriber and get a FREE digital handbook EVERY YEAR, as well as a FREE mid-season Prospect Report, click here. Every cent will be donated to Cole and his family.

Once you're payment is complete, please send me a quick email alerting me (sometimes the Amazon alerts take awhile show up in my inbox) so I can send you your copy.

For those who are wondering what's in the handbook:

The Top 30 Prospect Rankings with scouting reports, tools grades, peak performance projections and a future projection, including which affiliate the prospect is likely to start the 2011 season.

Also included: Review of the 2010 draft and draft grades, preview of the 2011 draft with a watch list, features on judging High Desert prospects, Blake Beavan, the M's first base crop, the riches of bullpen prospects, projecting the 2014 Seattle Mariners lineup, rotation and bullpen, the most valuable Seattle Mariners employees, and more.

Other features that we will feature here on the web site -- some FREE to all, some available only to subscribers -- includes a release of rankings 16-30, a profile of Tacoma Rainiers play-by-play man Mike Curto, and a new feature I'm excited about that will go in the handbook in future years -- a power ranking of the M's top 10 prospects, derived from conversations and analysis from talent evaluators.

For example, the M's No. 9 prospect may have a power ranking of 9.14, which would mean he grades out as the 14th best No. 9 prospect in baseball, lending a manner in which one can assess the M's prospects as a whole and individually.

All that will be published in the coming 7-14 days, and we will have a Prospect & Spring Training Chat on Wednesday at 6 pm PT.

Not to whine (but I'm good at it), but I haven't received mine yet.

Is this coming via e-mail?

4.  By: Edman on 02-22-2011 11:30:31
I tried to pay via Amazon. I'm not sure if it got processed or not. Please let me know if something glitched and I'll try it again.

Thanks

Kath,

Whiners always win! Right?

9.  By: acqb1424 on 02-22-2011 12:46:04
Jason,

I just sent you an email, but I tried opening the file and it says the file was damaged and contained an error and could not be opened. Any suggestions?

10.  By: Jason A. Churchill on 02-22-2011 12:47:59
I replied to your email. Haven't received that complaint before, so it could be a version issue or some other setting within your system or the reader itself.

But trying a again can't hurt.

Hey Jason,

It looks like I'm a whiner too, as I didn't receive the email as well. So please send it, as I can't wait to read it.

thanks,

Ron

Havent gotten through it all, but this is such a great handbook. I was pleasantly surprised with how high a few guys were too.

Great work!

I've accidentally paid twice - I was given a message that the transaction was denied, so I ordered again - can you please reverse the second transaction.

16.  By: ernier on 02-22-2011 14:06:24
I received my copy yesterday and it is absolutely awesome! You're making a big mistake if you don't get it.

17.  By: rocketdawg31 on 02-22-2011 14:27:40

Jason-

I'm afraid that I, too, am currently Handbook-less. (Did that sound non-whiney enough?)

18.  By: Jason A. Churchill on 02-22-2011 14:28:02
anyroad,

Please send me an email at churchill@prospectinsider.com so I can make sure you only get charged the once. I can reverse the transaction.

Thanks for dealing promptly with the double payment issue.

Enjoyed the "Scouting the Front Office" section. I tend to think of the strength of the Front Office along with the Ownership and the endowment of the marketplace, as being the best indicators of future success for a team.

I'm curious as to the HOW involved in creating an organization good at acquiring talent at good value and developing that talent.
JASON QUESTION: Is there a book or website that focuses on the HOW?
For example, what is most important when putting together a staff of scouts and player development people? E.g: sheer numbers, selection, placement, compensation and retention policy, Front Office directives and evaluations?
Or, another example, how do you decide how much money your willing to allocate towards amateur talent acquisition in sum, and how do you decide the upper $ limit your willing allocate for individual amateur talent targets in particular. Is there a system in place to evaluate the relative value of 16 IFA out of the Dominican Republic vs a 21 year old college player in the amateur draft who, say, have very similar scouting assessments?.

Jason,

Please add me to the list of subscribers who have not recieved the handbook. Thanks.

There was a teaser a couple weeks back about Valdivia's progress working back to regular game action. Since it didn't make the handbook, any chance we could get it here?

22.  By: bunvt on 02-22-2011 15:31:40
First of all, great work on the Handbook this year, for those that haven't bought one yet, it's well worth the price, a wealth of information and a great read. I like what I hear so far, especially prospects 1-6.

And, a sidenote: Jason you wrote about Travis Snider getting injured playing golf on ESPN. As a general rule, does a golf swing have much impact on a baseball swings mechanics? memory muscle etc?

My coach back in the day forbid any players on the team to even play golf b/c he thought so, even though he was an avid golfer himself.

Hi, Jason. I know you are busy. Been trying to pay for the hand book, I'm logged in but it keeps coming up denied access. Is there anything I may try?

24.  By: Jason A. Churchill on 02-22-2011 16:34:27
Yes, JFV will be addressed here on the site.

FatBat,

If you are still having issues, email me I may be able to help.

25.  By: Jason A. Churchill on 02-22-2011 16:35:43
If you are a forever subscriber and have yet to receive your handbook, you have to email me to get it.

26.  By: Jason A. Churchill on 02-22-2011 16:36:58
bunvt,

That's an interesting question, one I will ask the staff when I get to Peoria next month.

27.  By: griggs on 02-22-2011 18:12:36
Just sent you an email Jason. Thanks!

I feel like such a whiny little 10 year old girl, but you know what? I'm a whiny 10 year old girl with a copy of the 2011 Prospect Insider Digital Handbook.

Wow, this is some pretty good stuff, Jason! I wish to hell that we had some place to discuss the contents in detail! I'm somewhat surprised with some of the guys who made the cut, but I'm also heartened because there is some guys that I'm pulling for who made the list. This bloody ROCKS!

Amazon must not be working. This is B.S.!!

33.  By: FWBrodie on 02-22-2011 21:29:13
When you click confirm or whatever on Amazon, just wait a second for them to send you an email before you go back and do it again. It probably worked the first time. Not sure why that access denied screen comes up, but it did work.

34.  By: sexymarinersfan on 02-22-2011 23:59:22
Hey thanks Brodie and Jason. I got the email. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!

35.  By: baseballman on 02-23-2011 12:02:04
Hey JAC quick question regarding Paxton. Had he signed/when he signs, where does he fit into the top 30?

36.  By: sexymarinersfan on 02-24-2011 08:57:37
Personally, I would think that Paxon might be on our Top 10 list of prospects, if he is indeed signed.

37.  By: maqman on 02-24-2011 13:10:43
Got mine, worth the wait, well done, thanks much.

38.  By: everblue77 on 02-27-2011 06:37:50
Thanks for all the "whining" fellow fans...as we got our handbook just hours after we paid! What a compilation of info Jason...do you sleep? You are truly to be commended for an outstanding job. Can’t say I’ve gone cover to cover yet but pretty darn close.

Prospect 23, yes, he’s my favorite …”the goon” as Lonnie calls him. Jason - I see you have his control/command as his weak tool. From what I've seen (I've follwed him for a few..ha), I think you’ll see that is probably his top or second best attribute. The rest… I’m impressed! Can’t wait for the season to begin. Go Mariners!

Good question on Paxton.... so does he sign?

39.  By: KevinF on 03-01-2011 12:46:17
As another one who spends more time "lurking" than contributing may I say thanks for the hard work and effort. I've only started reading so I'll reserve individual comments/questions until later... but I can see I'll enjoy reading what you've provided.

Again, thanks.
