We've discussed since the end of the season the potential targets for the Seattle Mariners -- who could all be targets for several other clubs, too -- including the likes of Prince Fielder, Joey Votto, Nick Swisher, Jay Bruce, Grady Sizemore, David Wright and Logan Morrison.| 1. By: jgstecker on 11-18-2011 18:58:48 I Think I'd like to see a deal for that Toronto kid most. Doesnt seem like hes in their plans too much. If they end up with Prince he may be even more expendable. Think they'd want League back? That pen is barren. Maybe with a Campos type prospect? I'd also do that deal with Colorado. |

3. By: Dmitriy1992 on 11-18-2011 21:21:20 I agree I want to see Jack go after the Toronto or D'backs kid. I am just worried about what the AA will demand in a trade for the Toronto player? Jose Campos?

By: marinerforever on 11-18-2011 21:38:25 Definatly with the last option he is a beast and would fit in as one of the moto bats we need iam as greedy as they come I would love to see a 2013 roation of felix. Pineda walker paxton hulten that would be incredible but if we only have to give up one to get him let's do it |
5. By: Shawnuel on 11-18-2011 21:48:11 Looks like Sizemore is going back to Cleveland on a smaller, incentive laden deal. Also, Doumit to the Twins.
6. By: Jason A. Churchill on 11-18-2011 21:50:06 yeah, Shawnuel, you should get Twitter. Been talking about those all day. Dmitriy1992, I'm not sure I wouldn't make that deal with the Jays. I'd have to think about Campos in that one.
7. By: Shawnuel on 11-18-2011 22:09:08 I have twitter and am following you.....just don't have a job where I can be checking the web. Gotta wait until evening.
8. By: Jon O on 11-18-2011 22:41:14 What kind of package would the Baltimore player require? Also, what does "He's gets it" mean with the Blue Jay player mentioned? Love the updates and insights Jason!

11. By: KingFelix on 11-19-2011 01:48:38 It will be real interesting to see if Jack can land an impact bat. If not, what is the point of keeping Felix.
12. By: Juan Valdez on 11-19-2011 06:30:12 On that last player, why is it that the D'Backs would be willing to trade him, especially if he is such a bargain the next few years? What is the motivation on their end?
13. By: docsmith on 11-19-2011 07:26:38 I am likely in the minority, but I am not going to be heart broken if the M's do very little this winter. Or, put another way, nothing I am hearing really excites me. Maybe it is just the stage we are at in the off-season and a relatively weak FA pool, but it would really pain me to see us over pay, again (in $ or prospects), for a injury risk "high up side" player. Maybe I've just been burned by that too much, but I'd rather watch the kids grow in 2012. See if Seager, Smoak and Carp are for real. See if it was bad luck, too much golf or declining skills with Ichiro. See what we have with Robinson and Wells. But I haven't had my coffee yet this morning.... :)
14. By: Rudolf on 11-19-2011 11:05:21 If the price is right-- read, no Hultzen, Paxton, Walker, Pineda, Franklin-- then let's see if we can boost the offense with promising young hitters. If the Arizona kid is available then that would be different. He's worth top prospects. The guys from Toronto and Baltimore are intriguing but are too risky (and expensive in Baltimore). If Toronto could snatch Colby Rasmus for Stewart and relievers, then we can pull a similar move for similar pieces.
15. By: maqman on 11-19-2011 13:13:36 I'm with docsmith and won't be heartbroken if all we see from the team is a whole lot of not much. I'll be happy if Z signs a couple or role players, a pile of bullpen candidates on minor league/spring training invites and adds by subtracting Figgy after he fails to impress in spring training. We ended the past season with a better team than we started it with and we ID'ed some nice potential contributors for the future. The glass is more than half full.
16. By: marinerforever on 11-19-2011 19:18:56 Docsmith@maqman You are crazy you can't possibly want. Us to do nothing it doesn't matter if you ended with a better team than you started with your team is still incomplete and won't compete and if we don't compete it is one less year we have with felix and gmz. Let's go for gusto and win iam not saying to trade everyone. But to part with one of our future ones or two to get a stud hitter is a good idea
17. By: docsmith on 11-20-2011 07:13:28 I don't feel crazy.... :) Doing very little or signing role players isn't doing nothing. At least to me, it could include many of the second tier signings that were discussed. Of course it would be great to get a stud hitter....if the price is right. And that is one of the things I took from the article. It seemed several clubs whom we might acquire a "stud hitter" from were taking the stance of waiting until they were overwhelmed with an offer. And I don't feel like overwhelming anyone. We are finally developing a good farm. But that is relative. I am still waiting for the rankings to come out as our farm has been so bad, good to us may only be league average, maybe a little better. So, how hard can you raid a league average farm (maybe better) and not mortgage the future? But I still trust Z and do expect him to do something. But, in the end if he doesn't, I won't be heart broken as I think he has been continuously doing things to build the team and I can see the moves made in the last two years paying off.
